Sportsnetwork Hacked

Posted by Paul Godden on April 21, 2008 at 3:26 pm

The website, Sportsnetwork.com, has been hacked, apparently, by Chinese nationalists looking to put western civilisation straight! When originally hacked on Sunday, sportsnetwork.com had their front page removed and replaced with Chinese slogans stating the hacker’s disgust at how the media had apparently twisted the ongoing situation in Tibet. Assuming this has actually been done by [...]

I’m not sure if this is brilliance, or desperation, but I do know that I, and lots of other bloggers, get a free 1 year membership to Britannica online – which can’t be a bad thing for us. So how? Surprisingly registering myself on the website for access was very straightforward. You simply provide the [...]

UK Supermarket chain Tescos to offer MP3 downloads

Posted by Paul Godden on April 15, 2008 at 1:36 pm

Tesco have offered their customers WMA files for a while now, but the really interesting thing with this story is that they will also be offering MP3′s next month – no DRM. This is obvious competition to iTunes, but I think more importantly with be a direct competitor to Amazon when they release their MP3 [...]

Yahoo's acquisition playing out like a soap opera

Posted by Paul Godden on April 10, 2008 at 10:16 am

It’s starting to get difficult to keep up with all the news flying around about Yahoo! Firstly you have Yahoo getting into bed with Google, trialling their AdSense in the US for a couple of weeks. Does this mean a Google offer is on the cards? Then there’s news of a deal imminent between Yahoo [...]

Yahoo replies to Microsoft's 3 week ultimatum as "counterproductive"

Posted by Paul Godden on April 7, 2008 at 1:11 pm

Yahoo has come back with a strong reply to Microsoft’s letter on Sunday – basically stating what we already knew, that Yahoo thought they were being undervalued by the original deal. In a letter that hints at shareholder discussions, and recent acquisitions, and the declining Microsoft stock, Yahoo said, “We consider your threat to commence [...]

Microsoft to go "hostile" with Yahoo in 3 weeks

Posted by Paul Godden on April 5, 2008 at 9:03 pm

In a press release from Microsoft, Steve Balmer states that the company will be going directly to Yahoo’s shareholders with their offer, and also to start an election for the board of directors – if the search engine doesn’t respond in 3 weeks. Also within the press release Microsoft are basically stating that their offer [...]

American couple to sue Google over "invasion of privacy"

Posted by Paul Godden on April 4, 2008 at 10:05 pm

Only in America (sorry guys over the pond!) It appears that a couple, aptly named Mr and Mrs “Boring” are planning to sue Google for “intentional” invasion of privacy with Google’s Street initiative, because they have the word “private” on a lane next to their house. They want damages because their property has apparently diminished [...]

Skype rumoured to be sold to Google – but would they want it?

Posted by Paul Godden on April 2, 2008 at 7:47 pm

In a recent article on CNet, there are apparently rumours of Skype to be sold off by eBay to Google. But would Google actually want Skype? On one hand, you have Google Talk – admittedly not the biggest IM client out there, but it does already support VoIP. On the other hand you have an [...]

Amazon creeping up on Apple

Posted by Paul Godden on March 27, 2008 at 12:43 pm

I guess it seems as though the consumer is starting to vote with it’s feet. Available in the US only, at the moment, Amazon MP3 are starting to make a mark in Apple’s music store dominance. The DRM-free music available from Amazon MP3 is proving a hit with customers, as sales have driven the new [...]
