bit.ly To Become j.mp?

wtf?, by Paul Godden.

I’ve just been using my favourite URL shortener, bit.ly, and something funny seems to be going on with the service..

bitly_logo_top It seems to have quickly switched to being resolved to j.mp! And then the site goes down for a short while – I’m guessing the creators of bit.ly realised the error. After a short time, j.mp and the original bit.ly both came back up.

jmp_logo So now there are 2 sites – one called bit.ly, and another resolving with j.mp. I guess a brand change from bit.ly, with the added advantage of even less characters to type! Genius.

Another change, which must be a temporary problem, is bit.ly or j.mp are not tracking clicks. But also, interestingly, you can log onto j.mp with your bit.ly details and still see your link history. I guess it’s going to be j.mp then!
