Translation Party!

cool, by Paul Godden.

A website where you can translate English to Japanese, but not in the ordinary way.

Powered by Google Translate, translationparty.com is one of those oddities you see spring up from time to time, which only succeeds in wasting your time when you’re supposed to be working.. But surprisingly, this one is actually a lot of fun as well!

The website takes a phrase you type in English, and it translates it into Japanese. Then back to English, then Japanese – so on and so on. It stops translating when it starts receiving the same English answer, or it gets stuck in a loop. As a test I’m going to take a few examples and put them through Translation Party to see what does and doesn’t get lost in the translation!

Famous Quotes

Stewart Brand – Once the new technology and become part of the steamroller, the role is part of the road. (Once a new technology rolls over you, if you’re not part of the steamroller, you’re part of the road.)

Albert Einstein – Poor people, to ensure our technology. (It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.)

Jack Handey – Most computers, in a cardboard box, he will remain sealed in the warehouse. (One thing a computer can do that most humans can’t is be sealed up in a cardboard box and sit in a warehouse.)

Company Slogans/Advertising

Apple (iPhone 3GS) – In other words, iPhone is the best beach is the fastest. (The fastest, most powerful iPhone yet.)

Apple (MobileMe) – The easiest way to maintain the synchronization of all. (The simple way to keep everything in sync.)

Symantec – This is a reliable connection to the world. (Confidence in a connected world.)

Hitachi – To stimulate the next (Inspire the Next.)

Microsoft – What’s happening? (where do you want to go today?)

Quotes from Movies/Films

Sleeping Beauty – MAJIKKUMIRAUORU? A single ball? (Magic Mirror on the Wall, who is the Fairest one of all?)

Gone with the Wind – To be honest, I love to please my mind! (Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn!)

Robocop – Please refer to, I got this problem. This is like me, has not been arrested. So I do not like the police. (See, I got this problem. Cops don’t like me. So I don’t like cops.)

Star Wars (Yoda) – I do not … please stop me. (Do or do not… there is no try)

Try some of your favourite quotes and sayings and see what Translation Party spews out! You can also order yourself a t-shirt, mug, mouse mat and more from the website with your catchy phrase on – in conjunction with zazzle.com
