Sony charging $50 to remove pre-installed software

The site, by Paul Godden.

$50 to remove the software? The fact is that computers and laptops are subsidised a little by this “crapware” as it’s called, so if you take it off, the companies lose that point of sale. I know most of you wouldn’t use something just because it’s installed on the machine, and would probably go looking for alternatives, but your normal home user isn’t going to do that. I’m sure Symantec make a bucket of cash every year buy people renewing their pre-installed copy of Norton. [SHOW ME]

  • Good news - It looks like Sony are going to withdraw the $50 fee after so many of us complained... Power to the people then, huh?
